The National Disability Insurance Scheme

What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a Commonwealth Government program that provides assistance services to Australians under the age of 65 who have a permanent impairment. By virtue of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013, which founded it, the NDIS went into effect in July 2016 and, by December 2022, would have funded the assistance of more than 500,000 Australians.

What is the NDIS Plan?

‘Participants’ is the term for NDIS users. In order to guarantee that a participant has the support required to meet the NDIS’s specified goals, an NDIS plan will be created based on their support requirements as indicated by allied health experts. Funding for assistive technology, allied health, social and community access, aid with daily living, and other things can all be included in an NDIS plan.

What is the NDIS Process?

The NDIS will introduce participants to a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or Support Coordinator who can help in establishing connections with service providers who offer the assistance specified in the plan. The plan is adaptable and may be renegotiated when support requirements and lifestyles change. The participant has choice and control regarding the delivery of services to best suit their wants and needs. This could involve selecting the necessary programs, support staff, therapists, and assistive technology.

How to get your NDIS plan?

Obtaining an NDIS plan involves a crucial planning process that determines the level of support you’ll receive. Follow these four steps to get started:

  1. Contact the NDIS to check your eligibility.
  2. Prepare for your NDIS planning meeting.
  3. Attend the planning meeting to create your NDIS plan.
  4. Receive your NDIS plan and take action towards achieving your goals.

By following these steps, you’ll be well-prepared to implement your NDIS plan and make progress towards your desired outcomes.
